When you're considering a cruise in Canada and Alaska, there are a couple of things you should bear in mind.

The larger ships have a huge range of balcony cabins on offer, giving you the option to keep an eye out even while you're in your cabin. The days are long during the summer in Alaska, so the sun doesn't set until late. You'll have the benefit enjoying the changing scenery and colours from the privacy of your own balcony even long after 9pm.
Another wee hint to consider is the side of the ship you choose your cabin to be on. If you've opted for a return cruise or you're on a small vessel it won't really matter, but if you're on a one-way trip from Vancouver to Seward or vice versa, it's an important consideration. Make sure you book a port side cabin to enjoy the lovely views of British Columbia on a southbound cruise finishing in Vancouver, or book a starboard side cabin if you're cruising in the other direction.
