Discover the Magic of Cruising with Becs

Becs and Mum

I was fortunate enough to be able to take my Mum on a cruise earlier this year, so I’ve been thinking about the benefits of cruising.

Unbeknown to me, Mum had been contemplating the idea of cruising for some time, but not sure if it would be the right fit for her.  I think her mind was set within the first few hours we stepped onboard.

So, what’s the appeal and how do you know if you’re a “cruiser”?

I truly believe that there's a little bit of cruiser in everyone! My job is like being a matchmaker—I'm here to help you discover your perfect cruise match. With so many options out there, I'm confident I can find a cruise that will sweep you off your feet.

The first thing to consider is where do you want to go.  From the majestic fjords of Norway to the tropical beaches of Tahiti, journeying down the Danube, or marveling at Alaska's pristine wilderness there's a smorgasbord of Ocean & River itineraries and the possibilities are almost endless.

You also need to determine the type of ship.  This plays a pivotal role in your ideal cruise experience, as various cruise lines cater to diverse demographics. Consider whether your preference leans towards expedition cruising or if you’re seeking the luxury and elegance of river cruising.  Do you want the excitement of a floating city with an endless array of entertainment to keep the kids entertained, or do you prefer a relaxed yet stately atmosphere.

Many cruises operate on an all-inclusive basis, covering the majority of expenses upfront, including meals and entertainment. This approach allows for more effective budgeting and eliminates the stress of unexpected costs, and it really makes your holiday so much more enjoyable when you are not constantly reaching for your credit card.

However, for those seeking greater flexibility, cruise options exist where the cabin and dining is included, with the choice to add on drink packages, shore excursions, gratuities (on certain ships), and more.  This can be great for anyone who is already well travelled, and may not want to pay for shore excursions they have already experienced, or even someone who may not be mobile enough to frequently get on and off the boat, but wants the ability to choose the best options for them.

Convenience stands out as one of the most compelling aspects for me.

A cruise promises a seamless, hassle-free experience from start to finish. With everything from your accommodation to dining and entertainment conveniently situated onboard, all that remains is to unpack once and let your adventure unfold.  Some cruise lines even offer a door-to-door experience where you truly can just sit back and let your every need be taken care of.

For solo travellers, in particular, cruising provides a safe and welcoming environment to meet new people, creating a sense of belonging and connection that enhances the overall holiday experience.

I also really enjoyed the opportunity to connect with like-minded travelers from around the world.  Whether you're sharing a meal with fellow guests, enjoying shared excursions, or participating in onboard activities and events, the sense of community onboard was fantastic.  Conversely, if want to enjoy an intimate dinner for two, this is absolutely possible.

So if you have a hint of curiosity about cruising, or whether you’re seeking relaxation, adventure, or a bit of both, cruising provides a versatile and enjoyable way to explore the oceans and waterways of the world.

PS.  Mum really did get the cruise-bug.  Like so many before her, she came back and booked another cruise!
