Day 1           Wednesday 17 November 2021
ARRIVE NELSON          (D)
This morning fly we Auckland to Nelson.   With a sunny maritime climate in the Nelson regions, there's an unmistakable freshness to the land and the ocean.   Local producers and an artisan culture combine to create confident and uncluttered cuisine, matched with wonderfully crafted wines. Upon arrival into Nelson we take an orientation tour of the city including Tahunanui, Moncrief Rise for panoramic views across Tasman Bay, Nelson Cathedral and the heritage precinct of South Street before checking in to our accommodation. This evening we enjoy a welcome dinner in the hotel restaurant and the opportunity to meet our fellow travellers.
Accommodation: Rutherford Hotel, Nelson – 3 nights

Day 2          Thursday 18 November 2021
NELSON          (BL)
This morning after breakfast we visit Pic’s Peanut Butter World and hear the Pic’s story. Learn all about the peanuts and watch what happens on the factory floor then finish the tour with a tasting of the product itself – a delicious highlight!
Late morning, we head out to the artisan village of Upper Moutere to enjoy lunch and a tasting at a boutique winery.  Spend the afternoon visiting a selection of Moutere Artisans.   This collection of artists, wine makers and artisan food producers have a deep love for, and connection with the stunning natural landscapes that encircle them. The soils here provide excellent growing conditions for rich, flavoursome fruits, vegetables, olives and grapes so you’ll see roadside stalls and boutique stores dotted through the valley.  Following our explorations and tastings in Upper Moutere, we return to the city of Nelson where our evening is at leisure.

Day 3          Friday 19 November 2021
Early this morning we travel to Kaiteriteri, gateway to the Abel Tasman National Park. On arrival receive a picnic lunch and depart on a Sea Shuttle catamaran for a cruise along the stunning shoreline of Abel Tasman National Park.  En route learn about the history of the park and view the famous Split Apple Rock, a fur seal colony, and the golden beaches and crystal-clear waters of Abel Tasman National Park.  For the more adventurous there is the option of landing ashore at Apple Tree Bay and walking the 7-kms to Anchorage (approximately 2 hours walk). This walk has stunning views of the Tasman Bay through native bush. The track is well defined and requires an excellent/reasonable level of fitness. The boat will collect the walkers at Anchorage on its return down the coast. This afternoon on our way back to Nelson we stop in at Mapua Wharf which is home to a vibrant collection of restaurants, cafes, galleries, and boutique stores.  Dinner is included in the hotel restaurant this evening.

Day 4           Saturday 20 November 2021
After breakfast we visit the Nelson Markets which are recognized throughout New Zealand and the world, for its fine produce and quality artistry.  After some time at leisure to explore the markets independently, we depart Nelson and travel to the small township of Havelock which sits at the head of the Pelorus Sound in the Marlborough Sounds. This afternoon we enjoy the natural beauty of the Marlborough Sounds with an indulgent half-day Greenshell Mussel Cruise. Relax and unwind while we cruise the tranquil Pelorus Sound and Kenepuru Sound aboard a comfortable catamaran. Learn about local history, visit a mussel farm, taste fresh steamed mussels paired with a glass of Marlborough wine and take in the stunning scenery. Back onshore we continue our journey into Marlborough where fifty years ago there was hardly a commercial grape grown in the Blenheim area. Now the Marlborough district is the top wine producing area in New Zealand with its wines winning awards around the world. We dine this evening in the hotel restaurant.
Accommodation: Scenic Hotel Marlborough – 2 nights

Day 5           Sunday 21 November 2021
BLENHEIM           (BL)
Start the day with a visit to Omaka Aviation Heritage Museum to visit the Knights of the Sky and Dangerous Skies exhibitions.  The development of aviation and the stories of the men that flew them are brought to life in two distinctive exhibitions. The first featuring the extensive collection of World War One aircraft and rare memorabilia belonging to Sir Peter Jackson and showcasing the talents of WingNut Films and Weta Workshop in Knights of the Sky. The second exhibition, the story of aviation continues with Dangerous Skies in World War II, the aircraft, some exclusive to Omaka, are given the trademark theatrical treatment the museum has become famous for.  A visit to Marlborough wouldn’t be complete without sampling some of the excellent wines being produced here so we visit one of Marlborough’s premier wineries – Wither Hills.  A guide takes us through the Vine Library to learn about thirty different grape varieties grown on-site; then we sample a tasting of wines from the Wairau Valley range.  We complete our Wither Hills experience with a delicious lunch in the winery restaurant. The remainder of the afternoon and evening is at leisure to explore Blenheim independently.

Day 6           Monday 22 November 2021
Our time sampling the Nelson and Marlborough regions comes to a conclusion today as we transfer to Blenheim Airport for our flight back to Auckland.
