G’day from Byron Bay
A great alternative to your Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast holiday, Byron Bay is just 2 hours drive south of the Brisbane Airport or just 45 minutes from Coolongatta Airport.
After a Managers Conference held in Sydney in October, I flew to Coolongatta, picked up and rental car and drove down to Byron Bay.
There is a large variety of accommodation from basic motels, to nice apartments and 5 star luxury at the Byron on Byron Retreat where we stayed. This property is set on 45 acres of bush and wetlands and the apartments are spacious and beautifully decorated (including a bathtub to die for !!!). We choose this hotel for it’s facilities including the gorgeous pool, lovely wide veranda decks with comfortable couches and chairs for relaxing, the excellent day spa and of course the great restaurant and bar. We weren’t disappointed !!
Byron Bay itself is a lovely little town set on a variety of beautiful beaches and surrounded by national parks. The lighthouse is the most Easterly point in Australia and there are lots of walking and biking tracks throughout the area. The area is very relaxed, with an aspect of the old “surfers/hippie” retreat still obvious. We found a multitude of great cafes and restaurants which all seemed to outdo themselves with excellent food.
We took a day trip and drove the loop road inland driving through beautiful farmland and countryside to the Crystal Castle. This is definitely a place for the girls with a fantastic little café with amazing views, tarot, aura and astrology readings, beautiful garden walks and amazing crystals. We visited Nimbin which is very much still a “hippy” town that boasts the annual MadriGrass carnival. We spent a full day driving this area and agreed that it a very beautiful part of Australia. Give Bryron a try – you’ll love it too !!!
