Fancy a day out from your stay at Denarau or mainland Fiji?

Fancy a day at a beautiful beach with crystal clear waters, white sand and great snorkelling?

Fancy doing this and being able to enjoy superb food and your favourite cocktail?

Well … head to Malamala Beach Club for the day.

Located 25 minutes from Port Denarau, Malamala Beach Club has been set up on a small tropical island and offers day trippers the opportunity to experience the one of Fiji's famous islands without having to overnight.

We were collected from our Denarau hotel at 9.30am, a nice leisurely start which we like on our holidays. We were taken to Port Denarau where extremely efficient staff checked us in and directed us to our catamaran leaving at 10am.

It was no time at all that we saw a small island looming in front of us and then we were pulling up at the purpose-built pier. Opened in August 2017, the pier was solid and safe and gave the feeling of arriving someone exotic and exciting.

At the end of the pier, we were met by our “butler” Andrew for the day, who directed us to our private cabana (an additional $F75 for the day). The cabana was a private 4 posted structure with day bed and cushions plus two canvas deck chairs all located right on the beach. Neighbouring cabanas were barely visible through the islands vegetation and we had the feeling of being on our own private island. Clean and modern toilets, showers and changing facilities were located close by.

Our butler Andrew explained the island’s facilities to us, brought us a tropical fruit ice lolly and took orders for drinks and food throughout the day. He was there to replace your drink just after you got to the last swig and bring food right around the time you were feeling hungry. Nothing was too much trouble and he was extremely helpful and pleasant throughout the day.

The food from the island’s restaurant was superb. We had a variety of small dishes which were delicious and extremely well presented. The flavours and aromas from each dish were amazing.

Apart from our own tropical paradise where we happily spent our day, the island has a large infinity pool, activities centre with non motorised water sports, a towel service, restaurant and bar plus complimentary wi-fi for those who can’t bear to leave their devices behind.

There are plenty of places to set yourselves up for the day with pool day beds (extra) and deck chairs all over the island. Or you can just grab a towel and stretch out on the lovely beach. The Beach Club easily caters for larger groups/families, special occasions and even do weddings. The island takes around 15-20 minutes to “stroll” around, the snorkelling is great and the swimming in the clear water highly recommended. In my opinion, you can use the pool at your mainland hotel – this island is about the sun, sea and sand – or in one word “Fiji”.

There were a couple of different departure times back to Port Denarau staring at 4.15pm, giving you the opportunity to stay until the end or head back for you evening at your resort. A wonderful day was had by all at Malamala Beach club.

Check out Malamala on your next trip to Fiji – you won’t be disappointed.
