Ready for takeoff to America and Canada
Pauline and John Stovell took their trip of a lifetime in 2008 travelling for a couple of months around North America and Canada.
Working with Paula Coppell from Best United’s Havelock North office, John and Pauline wanted to tailor a trip that suited their needs and travel requirements, while ensuring that they didn’t miss out on the things and places they really wanted to see.
“We gave Paula a rough idea of where we wanted to go based on what we already knew but the timing was going to be tight so she set about reworking it to fit a better schedule,” says John.
“We’re nearly hitting 80 and we didn’t want to be rushing from one place to another trying to catch airplanes and things for the whole eight weeks,” he says. The couple’s first stop was Lake Forest, Chicago, where they attended their granddaughter’s graduation.
From Lake Forest they moved on to visit friends in Omaha, Nebraska, then travelled up to Vancouver and Ketchikan in Canada. The Stovells then enjoyed a 10-day cruise that took them on an in-land passage, past ice and glaciers, ending up in Juneau.
From sea to rail, the Stovells then caught the Rocky Mountain express across to Toronto, on the way making stops at various tourist spots, including the famous Niagara Falls. After heading north to Montreal the itinerary finished up back in Chicago from where Pauline and John caught their last plane back to New Zealand.
John says planning for the trip was extensive with masses of exchanges and transfers, accommodation, train and cruise bookings all organised by Paula. “All we had to do was get to the right place at the right time!”
