Look I won’t pretend it’s a picnic but it’s not all doom and gloom either.

.

Like most things there are positives and negatives. How many of each depends on the duration of the journey.

.

My journey would have plenty of both because I travelled from Rotorua to Bergen, on the west coast of Norway.

.

I calculated 40 hours of travelling to reach Bergen.

.

I was feeling positive when I left Rotorua. My travel agent from Galaxy Travel Jo had prepared me well. I was ready to take on the airways.

.

Jo had booked the front of aisle seats so that we could use the bassinet (which actually is meant for under 10 month olds but I was confident I could squeeze Zoe into one for sleeping. And I did). Her legs hung over the end and her body was almost wedged into it’s width).

Because we used the bassinet the person next to us was moved for their comfort which gave us extra room. Zoe and I could spread out and it meant that she had her own seat which was not what we paid for on her under two ticket.

.

What I’m sure Jo told me but I had forgotten was that Zoe wouldn’t get her own meal.
.
There were other challenges like changing a poo nappy in the plane toilet......
.
I have to say that things did get funnier as the journey progressed. Thats what happens when you get that sleep deprived but the finish line is in site. Having done some adventure racing that was how I mentally paced myself. The time did seem to pass very quickly though and when Zoe slept I made sure I at least had my eyes closed and rested. We read a lot of books and played with a collection of new toys from the $2 dollar shop that she hadn’t seen before. We marched up and down the aisle as much as I thought we could get away with. She loved looking at all of the different people. We were best of friends and kind of clung to each other in the newness of it all.
.
Would I do it again—yes because the memory of it disappears faster than the memory of being in labour.
.
For the experience we had together during the journey and more so when we got to our destination I’d travel back to Norway with Zoe in a flash. It was fantastic watching Zoe experience a new world and find such pleasure and fun on our adventure.
.
Thanks Jo for all of your help. I hope Zoe and I travel together again very soon.
