I've recently returned from the colourful & vibrant city of Buenos Aires in Argentina. It really impressed me with its pretty tree-lined cobblestone streets, which was totally unexpected. I stayed in the suburb of Palermo Hollywood - it's bursting with funky restaurants and bars and only a short taxi ride from the CBD. Taxis are so cheap here - a 45 min taxi ride costs as little as NZ$15!

A must-do for everyone is a visit to one of their famous closed door restaurants (a restaurant in a secret location), where you get to talk with the chef and spend an evening with an intimate group of diners. The one we chose was Steaks by Luis and we were treated to a meaty 5 course degustation dinner, which we enjoyed with a great group of people from all around the globe. It's fair to say we didn't eat much the next day!!

Another highlight was heading out to the countryside to a working horse ranch where we met with the gauchos and saw first-hand their carefree and basic lifestyle. This was followed by another divine 6 course meat lunch and wine! Our guide, Marcello, from Signature Tours was a wealth of knowledge and I'd highly recommend him as a private guide.

If you're travelling or considering South America, I'd highly recommend a 3-4 night stop in this incredible city.... so much to see and do... and did I mention the food and wine???? :)
