Things you should know about Iceland

To see Atlantic puffins the best time to visit is during the spring or summer when 60% of their global population nest there - that's about 8-10 million puffins a year!  The Arctic Fox is the only native mammal and interestingly it changes the colour of its fur from white in the winter to brown in the summer.

The main city of Reykjavik runs on geothermal power.

These days geothermally-heated greenhouses make vegetables more accessible, allowing modern chefs to become more imaginative, infusing new ingredients into ancient Icelandic recipes.

Iceland's isolation means that typical food revolves around fish, lamb and Icelandic skye (a type of yoghurt). It's simple but tasty fare.
World Travellers
Getting around Iceland by rental car or camper offers excellent flexibility. The road network generally has low traffic. Around Reykjdvik it's easy to get around by car, foot and tour bus. Although the bus tours can be a little more expensive it saves having to navigate unfamiliar roads which are sometimes icy.
