Itinerary

Day 1: Reykjavik

Hallo! Welcome to Reykjavik, which lies just below the Arctic Circle. The city sees around 22 hours of sunlight a day in summer or as little as four hours of sunlight in winter. This creates the perfect opportunity to experience the magic of the midnight sun or northern lights depending on the weather and time of year you're travelling. Your family adventure begins with a welcome meeting at 3 pm today. After, your leader will guide a walk through the city centre introducing you and your family to the country's fascinating folklore. Iceland is called the Land of the Sagas because of its incredible tradition of folklore and tall tales, like the ‘Elves of Iceland’ (known in Iceland as ‘the hidden people’) and the trolls, whose existence is shrouded in mystery, not to mention the 13 Santas! After you've worked up an appetite you may like to join your fellow travellers for a group dinner this evening.

Day 2: Snaefellsnes

This morning, travel from Reykjavik to the Snaefellsness Peninsula. Along the way you’ll stop at a few of Iceland’s iconic sites, like Mount Kirkjufell, the white beach at Budir, and then on to Arnarstapi, where a short stroll along the coastal cliffs exposes you to rich bird life and other wonders of nature. Continue on to the basaltic pebble beach Djupalonssandur. Your accommodation tonight is a family-run horse farm, where you’ll get to settle in for a home-cooked dinner and get to know the friendly resident Icelandic horses.

Day 3: Golden Circle

Head out early this morning to follow the Golden Circle driving route towards Thingvellir National Park. Thingvellir was the location of Iceland's first parliament, founded in AD930, and is also the site of the Silfra Fissure, where tectonic plates are pulling apart and exposing some pretty wild rock shelves. Continue on to the Geysir Geothermal Area and check out the Strokkur Geyser – it swells with blue water before erupting and shooting a spout some 20–30 metres in the air. Finally, witness the sheer power of the Gullfoss (Golden) Waterfall on the Hvita River. You'll even get a chance to stop by Secret Lagoon, a natural hot pool that will beckon you to take a dip, on your way to tonight's accommodation. After your Golden Circle tour, head to your stay in the Hvolsvollur region for the evening.

Day 4: South Coast

After breakfast head out to enjoy even more sights along the stunning South Coast. Today's highlights will include the iconic Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls, black sand beach and Dyrholaey Peninsula. If visiting between April and August, you may be lucky enough to spot puffins perched on the cliffs. You'll have the opportunity to grab some lunch in the picturesque town of Vik before visiting the incredible Lava Show. A truly unique and educational experience where the flow of real lava can be experienced safely. Kids will be left in awe as you may the drive back to your cosy cabin in Hvolsvollur. Enjoy dinner and a relaxing evening together under the magnificent Icelandic sky. Your cabin is in the perfect location to take in the magic of the midnight sun or northern lights depending on the weather and season you are travelling in.

Day 5: Reykjavik

This morning we head back towards Reykjavik stopping off for lunch along the way. This afternoon visit a local family home where kids will be able to make their very own Skrimsli - a cuddly Icelandic wool monster that they can take home as a unique souvenier. On arrival to Reykjavik you will have some free time to rest or explore some more before the opportunity to come together as a group for one final dinner together.

Day 6: Reykjavik

With no activities planned today you are free to depart any time. Breakfast is included at the accommodation and there's plenty of amazing activities on offer in the Icelandic capital for you to choose from. Your leader will be happy to provide recommendations and make sure to speak to your booking agent if you would like to book additional nights in Reykjavik.
