Bartering for a better price at the local markets is a fun and friendly way to interact with the locals and take home some unique souvenirs. Just remember these locals' livelihoods are on the line, so don’t be the tourist fighting over a single dollar. It means a lot more to them than it does to you.

Us Kiwis are a pretty laid back bunch so you’re bound to fit in with the Thai locals. Which means you’ll definitely hear them saying “Mai pen rai” quite often. It’s basically the Thai version of “sweet as” and means don’t stress mate, everything is going to be all good.

Don't feed the monkeys. They’re cute, playful and totally different to anything you’ll experience on a New Zealand beach. But, be warned … while these cute little mates seem like great friends to have for a beach day, the reality is that they’re always on the lookout for a treat. So don’t be tempted to hand over your snacks because you might end up with a pesky monkey trying to steal your bags!
