Europe

Delve into a myriad of cultures, cuisines and landscapes

Europe is a dream destination for so many Kiwis, due to the diversity of cultures, languages and scenery that exist in such close proximity. Flights between countries are cheap, and you can find yourself experiencing so much in such a short amount of time.

Opt to see as much as you can if you have the time, or if you’re limited focus on a particular region and spend some quality time immersing yourself there. You’ve got the charming countryside and pub culture in the UK and Ireland, the Northern Lights and Midnight Sun in Scandinavia, gorgeous cobblestone old towns in Central and Eastern Europe, sun-dappled coastlines in the Mediterranean, fine alpine scenery in Switzerland, the delightful cuisine of Spain and Italy, fairytale forests in Germany, and plenty of romance in France.

Europe has so much to offer, and our expert consultants can help guide you through the planning process to help you get the most out of your Europe trip.

Things you should know about Europe

The highest mountain in Europe is Mount Elbrus. It’s peak reaches a lofty height of 5,642m, a lot higher than our own Mount Cook at just 3,724m.

Russian is the most commonly spoken language in Europe, followed by German, French, Italian and English.

Up until 2021, Kiwis travelling to Europe for up to 90 days won’t require a visa to enter the countries in the Schengen Zone. From 2021 you’ll need to apply online for an ETIAS visa waiver.

Tips and advice from our travel advisors

There are so many walks to be revisited and discovered in the Chamonix Valley. It’s a truly beautiful part of our planet, so do go and discover it!

To avoid crowds in Europe I suggest getting up at the crack of dawn, and while everyone else is having their hotel breakfast so you can have the streets and sights to yourselves. Score those amazing photos and soak up the ambiance without the crowds. Then sit alfresco at a cafe feeling smug and enjoy the people watching.

When visiting Budapest make time to have dinner at Halaszbastya Restaurant. Located in a beautiful castle atop Buda Castle Hill with amazing views over the Danube and “Pest” it really is quite a special experience.
