Club Med Bali reinvented
On a recent trip to Bali with my 9 year old son, we were treated to a glimpse of the "new" Club Med, edging its way slowly but surely to a consistent 5 star experience across the globe, for those travellers who LOVE the all-inclusive, easy, active (or not) holidays that Club Med offers, but who have a strong desire for luxury and top class service. It's a distinct move that Club Med has made in the last few years, to meet a discerning market of both couples and families wanting the best product without the depersonalised service that many luxury brands suffer from.
So what does the "new" Club Med offer? For my well-travelled son and I, both our needs were perfectly met. He enjoyed charging around trying to fit in as many activities as the day (and the heat) would allow, including archery, table tennis, pool games and the signature Club Med activity - the flying trapeze. I watched him with interest from my comfy daybed by the pool, enjoying the poolside cocktail service. We both enjoyed our spa treatments in the world-class spa - Master tried a hot stone massage while I opted for the deep tissue treatment in our gorgeous double treatment room.
The new specialty restaurant by the beach was our favourite for pre-dinner drinks and tapas, enjoying tasty Idonesian inspired treats while watching the sun go down. The restaurant is open for dinner in the evenings and both inside and outside seating areas are slick and innovative - well up there as a 5 star experience.
The new adult only Zen pool is also a 5 star triumph for Club Med Bali and is particularly appealing for couples, with huge suspended daybeds that rock you gently between dips in the pool.
The resort is currently completing full renovations and extensions of their rooms, which they're doing wing by wing to minimise disturbance to guests (we didn't even notice it). We were lucky enough to view one of the first completed rooms and it was stunning - bringing the accommodation well up to that 5 star standard that Club Med will soon become synonymous with.
If you're interested in the mix of luxury and all-inclusive, but you're looking for a new destination, Club Med has STUNNING brand new resorts in the Maldives, Guilin and Dong'ao Island in China (just off Hong Kong) and in the French Alps.
