Europe - Berlin
Berlin a city of grey and green – not many of the really old buildings are left (some being renovated) and those rebuilt after the war are mostly drab and uninteresting but these are combined with many green trees, parks, rivers and canals. Apparently Berlin is one of the greenest cities in the world. The TierGarten park is a beautiful labyrinth of paths, lakes and streams and is perfect as a cool shaded walk from one side of the city to the other. The streets and footpaths are wide, the car traffic is minimal (on the weekend) but bikes and buses are numerous - there seems to be plenty of room for everyone though.
Hop-on-hop-off bus covered all the ‘important’ parts of this city with such an amazing history. Some very sad stories, (they have built a huge stone memorial to all the murdered Jews).
Beer is cheap here luckily as it has been so hot and the al-fresco dining is superb.
