My family & I flew on Air New Zealand directly from Auckland to the Gold Cost airport. With the flight a little over 3 ½ hours, the personal on demand entertainment system was great for keeping the children (& me) occupied.

We stayed in Burleigh Heads, which is located in the centre of the Gold Coast stretch of coastline between Coolangatta and Southport. It is approximately 55 minutes south of Brisbane Airport, 15 minutes north of Gold Coast Airport. Having booked a rental car, we found that everything of interest was within easy access. If you are feeling like walking off the excess food & drink, a walk from Burleigh to Broadbeach/Surfers will take about 1 ½ - 2 hours along a paved walkway, which is predominately on the beach side of the road.

A trip to the Gold Coast isn’t complete without a day or two at the Theme Parks. We decided on Movieworld & Seaworld, spending a day at each. While these parks are very different, the children loved both. Both offer loads of things to see, along with the shows and rides. Food or drink is not allowed to be taken into the parks. While it is readily available once inside, be warned that it is rather expensive…A$8.00 for an icecream…1 scoop!

If a bit of shopping therapy is required, Pacific Fair at Broadbeach is home to many major stores and over 260 specialty retailers. Alternatively, take a trip to Robina Shopping Centre, which is a 15–20 minute drive from Surfers. The centre features the Gold Coast’s only David Jones department store as well as over 350 speciality stores. Robina is also home of the Gold Coast Titans (rugby league team) & their home ground, Skilled Park.

A trip to the Gold Coast is always an enjoyable & welcome holiday, especially when escaping our winter for the warmer climate, and the bonus is that it won’t break the bank!
