Staying at one of the lovely resorts at Denarau can prove to be an expensive exercise if you also eat at the resorts. Port Denarau is just a 20 minute walk or $F5 taxi ride from the resorts and has a large number of restaurants, offering culinary delights to suit every member of the family at much cheaper prices than at the resorts. Most of the dining is outdoors overlooking the marina and a few of the restaurants offer some great local bands in the evenings which are well worth listening to.

Here’s a sample of what’s on offer.

Indigo Indian Restaurant

Don’t like Indian? Well don’t worry and keep reading as Indigo offers a large menu covering the flavours of India, Asia (mostly Thai) and some of the local Fijian cuisine. I dined with a party of 8 which meant we covered a lot of what was on offer. Each dish was beautifully presented, portions were very generous and the food and taste was excellent. The service was great and I can strongly recommend this restaurant.  My recommendations: Indian - Tandoori Platter / Asian – Prawn Phat Thai / Fijian – Maribai Seafood Combo

Cardo’s Steak House & Cocktail Bar

Cardo’s offer an extensive menu and are renowned for their great steaks. They also offer amazing seafood dishes from huge platters to gorgeous freshly caught fish of the day. A good pizza menu along with some old favourites like chicken schnitzel means this restaurant has something to please everyone.  My recommendations: Kokoda (marinated raw fish) and if Tuna Steak is on the menu – TRY IT – awesome!!!

Wok on the Wild Side

Located upstairs from Cardo’s and only open at the weekends to eat on the balcony.  However, you can order off their menu from Cardo’s every night of the week and enjoy a Cardo's cocktail while you are eating. The Chinese food is tasty, plentiful and some of the best I have. Along with excellent prices, what more could you want.  My recommendations: the Spring Rolls and the Sweet & Sour Fish – delicious!!!

Hard Rock Cafe

Standard Hard Rock Cafe where the meals are always reliably good and HUGE. Some great memorabilia on the walls and sitting upstairs in the air conditioning can be a great relief from the heat outside.  My recommendations: For a great lunch time snack to share, try the Jumbo Combo or for dinner the Hickory-Smoked Bar-B-Que Combo but make sure you don’t have a starter!!

Mama’s Pizza

Great value for money pizza’s from solo for one person to large that could feed a tribe!! The varieties are plentiful with the tried and true like Hawaiian and The Works to some slightly different pizza’s like Garlic Glazed Chicken or Egg Plant & Sun Dried Tomatoes. A selected range of beer and wine are available, along with soft drinks, milk shakes, some pasta dishes and garlic bread. Pizza’s are also available for takeaway.  My Recommendation: The Works with a BBQ swirl
