Join Silvana Gottini from World Travellers Motueka and renowned NZ painter Lisa Chandler on an 18-day artistic and cultural journey through Mexico.
Thoughtfully designed for artists seeking inspiration, connection, and creative growth. Before arriving at our beautiful coastal Casa, we explore Mexico’s vibrant artistic heritage, architecture, and daily life - gathering visual material that will later inform your studio work.
Throughout our travels, you’ll document your experiences using photography, capturing colour, movement, and moments that evoke the spirit of place. We’ll visit lively markets to collect collage materials, enjoy exclusive visits to private art studios, and draw inspiration from the Frida Kahlo Museum and Diego Rivera’s powerful murals. Creative adventures also include a delicious hands-on cooking class, a tequila tasting in Tequila, and a breathtaking hot-air balloon flight over the ancient Teotihuacan Valley where legend says the gods were created.
Our journey culminates at a coastal Mexican Casa, a peaceful retreat surrounded by tropical gardens, breezy terraces, colourful mosaics, and an inviting swimming pool. Here, you’ll enjoy fresh, nourishing meals each day and the company of a small group of like-minded artists. Evenings are yours to share lively conversation or find a quiet corner of the garden for reflection. In the four-day intensive workshop led by Lisa, you’ll work with mixed media, learning how to transform your photographs, collected materials, acrylic paint and paper into layered, expressive artworks that reflect your personal response to Mexico. Studio days will include demonstrations, group discussions, short inspirational art videos, dedicated studio time, and individual mentoring.
You’ll return home inspired, creatively renewed, and enriched by new friendships, carrying with you a collection of artworks that hold the colours, textures, and memories of Mexico.
This workshop is best suited to artists with some prior painting experience who are ready to deepen their skills. It is not intended for complete beginners. Participants should feel comfortable experimenting, working independently, and embracing new ideas with a sense of adventure and enthusiasm for creative exploration.
