Visit Colorado Year Round

The best time to visit Colorado depends on what type of activities you want to experience, because each season offers something unique.

Summer (June–August)
Summer is perfect for outdoor adventures such as hiking, camping, and wildlife viewing in places like Rocky Mountain National Park. The weather is generally warm and sunny, making it ideal for exploring the mountains and scenic drives through the Rocky Mountains.

Fall (September–October)
Fall is famous for its beautiful golden aspen trees across the mountains. Destinations near Aspen become especially scenic, and the cooler temperatures make hiking and sightseeing very comfortable.

Winter (December–March)
Winter attracts visitors who love snow sports. Ski resorts such as Vail and Aspen are world-renowned for skiing and snowboarding, drawing adrenaline seekers from around the world.

Spring (April–May)
Spring is quieter for tourism. Cities like Denver start warming up, but the mountains can still have snow. It is the best time to visit if you want fewer crowds.

Tip: Many travellers consider late summer and early fall the best overall time because the weather is pleasant and the scenery is stunning.

The altitude is high!
Many places in Colorado sit at high elevations, including Denver, which is about 1 mile (1.6 km) above sea level. Higher mountain towns and parks like Rocky Mountain National Park are even higher. You may feel altitude sickness, so it’s important to drink plenty of water, rest, and take time to adjust.
